Musician Married his stalker
Sunset Friday in Pretoria, on my way to pick up my youngest from Granny in Montana, my wife is scanning through the gig guides to debate where we will be having a sundowner.
SA’s favorite indie couple, Hoot n Anny, were performing just around the corner at the Malboer, and this was exactly what we were looking for.
Greeted by Oom Jan, the car guard, who assured us the car was safe so that we can kick back, relax and enjoy the show.
The about 50 seater outside was already full, we were looking around to see if we can find some seats and then Ian, one of the owners, gave up his table - which we gratefully appreciated.
Enjoying an ice cold Windhoek draft, Hoot n Anny already in their first set looking amazing on stage, the sound perfectly balanced for this set up, with a light breeze, the smell of steaks in the air and the view of the sunset.
Hoot n Anny is a Country couple from Pretoria. Franco Jamneck (Hoot) married to Alouise Jamneck (Anny), are sharing the vocals as Hoot and no one other than the guitar genius himself Peter Toussaint, plays lead guitar.
The characters Hoot n Anny are so entertaining, the storylines in between the songs quickly captures, then you are engaged in an act filled with humourism, life and love stories.
The lyrics of the original material is my favorite part of this acoustic band.
Franco is a well-known musician and sound engineer, being a sound engineer for years is an asset to the band, as when you book Hoot n Anny you eliminate the risk of technical difficulties.
Franco and Peter have been friends for years.Peter plays melodies over the funking Country guitaring of Hoot. The guitaring will lead you astray as the roles quickly change and then Hoot shows off his guitar skills with amazing pieces, lead and rhythm chasing each other. The guy at the table next to mine looks his date deep in the eyes and said “fuck love, these okes can jam”.
Anny’s vocals are so sweet, in some songs it sounds like a cartoon character, and that immediately relaxes the audience “like you are captured in a black widows web”, and when relaxed she comes with the high notes “the black widow’s kill” that left the audience with goosebumps.
Hoot n Anny and Peter share songs, the diversity on vocals entertain the audience for multiple sets. Whichever song the audience shouts at them they will play it “if it’s cool”, even a CCR cover which Hoot quotes ”CCR getting South Africans laid since the 70’s”.
Franco is the guitarist and vocals for Soil7t7 who rarely plays any shows, the front man with no shirt and funk styles had a stalker back in the day. He knew this as there was a black Corsa regularly parked outside his window at 3am. ”Woman”, “You can’t keep us down” and “Can I get some” are some of Soil7t7’s popular songs, however my personal favorite is “Planet”. I was stoned so often to that tune in my youth, when the intro starts I am already high.
Son of the late comedian Jammies Jamneck, humble character Franco, fell in love with his stalker with her big blue eyes, they got married, made music, made love and made the most energetic little boy called Alco.
This man really loves his family, his family loves him they love music…..LOVE LOVE LOVE….
Hoot n Anny is a true acoustic act, the music is honest. Buy their album “Count trees” and drive a day with it in your car and you will understand my message.
Here are the bands facebook page link to get to know this band and where they gig- if you don’t already know them.
